EPSO Language Requirements for AD5 2026: Language 1 and Language 2

The EPSO AD5 2026 competition (EPSO/AD/427/26) requires candidates to demonstrate proficiency in at least two EU official languages. Understanding the language rules is essential for planning your preparation.

Language 1: Any Official EU Language

Language 1 must be one of the 24 official languages of the European Union. Candidates choose their Language 1 when submitting their application. For AD5 2026, verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning and abstract reasoning are all taken in Language 1.

Language 2: another official EU language

Language 2 must be one of the official EU languages and must be different from Language 1. For AD5 2026, three test areas are taken in Language 2: EU knowledge, digital literacy and the EUFTE written test.

There is no Assessment Centre in EPSO/AD/427/26: no case study, oral presentation, group exercise or competency-based interview stage is part of this AD5 competition.

How can candidates choose Language 2?

EPSO/AD/427/26 does not limit Language 2 to English, French and German. For preparation purposes, the practical point is simple: train verbal, numerical and abstract reasoning in your Language 1, then train the remaining AD5 test areas (EU knowledge, digital literacy and EUFTE) in your chosen Language 2.

Practical Implications for AD5 Candidates

• Choose a different official EU language for L2: it can be any of the official EU languages except the one you selected as L1.
• Match practice to your declaration: prepare each AD5 test area in the language EPSO uses for that test.
