The reasoning skills to train first

CAST preparation is narrower than AD5: focus on the reasoning CBT, then follow the specific instructions in your EPSO account.

VR

Verbal Reasoning

Reading under time pressure

Short policy-style passages, statement evaluation, and strict evidence discipline: true, false, or cannot be concluded from the text.

CBT reasoning
NR

Numerical Reasoning

Tables, charts and ratios

Data interpretation with plausible distractors. Practice extraction, calculation and checking without wasting minutes on overwork.

CBT reasoning
AR

Abstract Reasoning

Pattern recognition

Shape sequences, rotations, counts and transformations. Train the pattern families so you can identify the rule fast.

Precision notice: CAST Permanent registration is open-ended: there is no fixed application deadline for the ongoing database. EPSO-listed CAST test sessions are indicative for candidates who are invited or shortlisted. Registering in a CAST profile does not guarantee an invitation, a test date or a job offer. Exact test format, pass marks, booking windows and final instructions are communicated by EPSO through the relevant notice and your EPSO account.

CAST prep without AD5 noise

Use this path if your priority is contract agent reasoning tests, not the full AD5 administrator package.

Invited

You received an EPSO CAST invitation

Use timed practice to tighten accuracy and speed before the CBT window shown in your EPSO account.

Shortlisted

You are in a CAST shortlist process

Prepare while the recruiting service and EPSO handle the next steps. We train the reasoning part; EPSO confirms the procedure.

Preparing ahead

You registered for CAST and want to be ready

Build the core reasoning skills now, without assuming that registration alone means you will be invited to test.

CAST vs AD5: prepare the right scope

The reasoning skills overlap strongly. CAST preparation is narrower — three CBT reasoning areas, with any extra steps set by the notice.

What the €79 CAST offer includes

Everything in this path is aimed at measurable CBT reasoning practice, not vague course content.

1

Focused diagnostic

Map your starting point across verbal, numerical and abstract reasoning so practice starts with your weakest area.

2

EPSO-style questions

Verbal passages, numerical tables and abstract patterns written for the same reasoning skills EPSO tests in CBT.

3

Targeted review

Questions you miss come back sooner. Strong areas take less space, weak patterns get repeated until they stop costing points.

4

Timed Exam Simulation

Practice under time pressure so you can check pace, accuracy and hesitation before any official EPSO testing window.

5

Answer Explanations

Every question explains why the correct answer works and why the distractors fail, so each attempt teaches technique.

CAST preparation questions

Precise answers for candidates preparing for EPSO contract agent selection.

What tests are in the EPSO CAST selection procedure?

CAST CBT reasoning preparation should cover Verbal Reasoning, Numerical Reasoning, and Abstract Reasoning. The exact number of questions, timing, pass marks and any additional steps are set in each EPSO notice and in your EPSO account.

Does CAST registration guarantee a test invitation?

No. Registering in CAST creates or updates your candidate profile; it does not mean your eligibility has been validated, that you are shortlisted, or that you will receive a test invitation. EPSO and the recruiting service control invitations and final instructions.

How is CAST different from AD5?

CAST (Contract Agent Selection Tool) supports contract agent recruitment; AD5 selects permanent administrators. CAST reasoning preparation is narrower: verbal, numerical and abstract reasoning. AD5 also includes EU Knowledge, Digital Literacy and EUFTE written work.

Are there interviews or further tests after CAST CBT?

Usually yes if you pass the reasoning tests and remain in the recruiting service process. The recruiting service may invite you to interviews and/or further job-related tests. Use Pass EPSO for reasoning preparation; use the official CAST notice, profile page and your EPSO account for the exact sequence.

Which language are CAST reasoning tests taken in?

For most CAST profiles, EPSO asks you to choose two different languages. Language 1 can be any of the 24 official EU languages and is used for the reasoning tests. Language 2 is usually English, French or German and may be assessed by the recruiting service during interviews or further tests. Always check the current Call for Expressions of Interest and your EPSO account.

How long does it take to prepare for CAST reasoning tests?

Most candidates see meaningful improvement after 4–8 weeks of consistent daily practice (30–60 minutes/day). Verbal reasoning improves fastest with daily reading and comprehension drills. Numerical and abstract reasoning require pattern recognition skills that build with repetition. Pass EPSO's adaptive system focuses your time on your actual weak spots — not material you already know.

Are EPSO CAST sessions on the website confirmed dates for me?

No. Publicly listed CAST sessions are indicative at programme level and matter only if you are invited or shortlisted for that testing round. Your personal booking window, platform instructions and test details come from EPSO directly.

Can I use AD5 preparation for CAST?

For reasoning, yes. Verbal, numerical and abstract reasoning skills overlap strongly across EPSO CBT formats. CAST candidates should not spend time on AD5-only areas unless they are also preparing for AD5.
