Frontex Standing Corps interview: how to prepare for the later selection stages

After the online and test stages, the Frontex Standing Corps interview becomes the part of the process where candidates need to show role fit, maturity, motivation and concrete professional behaviour. The official recruitment update lists psychological assessment, competency-based interview, pre-recruitment medical examination and eligibility confirmation among the later stages.

Where the interview fits in the official process

For the 2025/2026 Standing Corps campaign, Frontex lists the competency-based interview in Stage III. The official recruitment update says Team Member interviews were scheduled from 5 May 2026, with outcomes scheduled for the beginning of June. For the AD8 leadership profiles, interviews were scheduled from 15 April, also with outcomes scheduled for the beginning of June.

Stage IV then includes pre-recruitment medical examination and eligibility confirmation. The official page lists job offers scheduled for mid June 2026 and medical examinations from 30 June 2026.

What the competency-based interview is testing

A competency-based interview is not a speech contest. It is a structured way to test whether your past behaviour and judgement fit the role. You should prepare examples that are specific, verifiable and relevant to Standing Corps work.

Prepare examples for these themes

• Working under pressure: a real situation where deadlines, risk or workload forced prioritisation.
• Ethical responsibility: a moment where procedure, integrity or fairness mattered.
• Teamwork in a structured environment: cooperation with hierarchy, peers or external stakeholders.
• Communication in English: clear explanation of facts, decisions and constraints.
• Respect for fundamental rights: awareness of dignity, vulnerability, non-discrimination and accountability.
• Motivation for operational service: why you fit this specific European border and coast guard role, not just why you want an EU job.

Use the STAR method, but make it operational

The STAR structure — Situation, Task, Action, Result — is useful only if the answer sounds real. For Frontex, the best answers usually include:

• the operational context,
• the constraint or risk,
• the rule or value you applied,
• your concrete action,
• the outcome, and
• what you learned.

Avoid vague claims such as “I am a team player” or “I work well under pressure”. Replace them with short evidence: what happened, what you did, what changed.

Do not neglect the stages around the interview

The official process does not stop at the interview. Frontex also lists psychological assessment, medical examination, eligibility confirmation and job offers in the later sequence. Candidates should therefore keep documents organised and follow official instructions closely. Preparation plan for the final stretch

1. Re-read your application: interview answers should be consistent with what you submitted.
2. Build 8–10 evidence stories: pressure, ethics, teamwork, communication, conflict, learning, responsibility, resilience, and motivation.
3. Review official Frontex topics: mandate, fundamental rights, border/coast guard functions, return-related activity and EU institutional cooperation.
4. Practise aloud in English: fluency under pressure is different from silent preparation.
5. Keep checking the official Frontex recruitment update: dates, invitations and outcomes must come from Frontex.
